For the first 30 minutes, she didn't particularly strike me as an ESFP. But during that scene where she was being funnily petty with Sosuke's dad and the scene with her driving in the flood, I think it became quite obvious that she has Fi and Se on her functions stack. Just finished the film, and here's my mini essay: Firstly, during the flood driving scene, she was acutely aware of how to navigate herself in such a physically difficult environment, which is a good indication of her Se. Her ways of communication is often physical, like making tea to make Ponyo feel welcomed, doing little 'magic tricks' while making ramen to entertain the kids etc. She often doesn't question too much or have an exact plan before she does things; she just do it when the idea hits. So, she behaves very child-like and spontaneous, which one might mistake as Ne by stereotype. Secondly, her motivation stems from what she feels is right (Fi aux), not what makes the most logical sense (Ti blind). For example, she doesn't think about the logistics as to how will Sosuke take care of the house before driving in the flood to save the elders again, she just trusts that he's responsible enough. Another example indicating her Fi aux is maybe more up to interpretation, but she never disprove or question Sosuke's behaviours (which I would find odd from a standpoint of a parent who doesn't know precisely how he found Ponyo). Instead, she encourages his behaviour and respect his decision as long as it doesn't harm other people, which (I believe) is what she feels important in her child's education. Lastly, although she doesn't use inner logics as much, she does consider what will objectively works. She's keen to make sure they are on-time; she knows when to take in logical advice from others (e.g. leaving before the rain gets stronger). On a personal note, she reminds me so much of my mom in so many aspects. It feels really nostalgic tbh.
