Lots of Si. Actively internalizes and holds onto experiences and compares new ones to previous impressions. Remembers & dwells on the loss of his home and desperately wants to reclaim it ("He never forgave and he never forgot"). Places a strong importance on duty, family, & his people/traditions ("From my grandfather to my father, this has come to me. They dreamt of the day the dwarves of Erebor would reclaim their homeland"). Holds onto bitterness toward the elves for not helping them & rigidly refuses to change his outlook on them (Si-Fi loop fixed on traumatic past events & assuming new encounters will go just as badly, losing Te objective reasoning in this case). As Gandalf said, "I did not give you that map and key so you could hold onto the past." Strong Te. Gives orders constantly, organized the quest, steps up to lead and easily takes command of situations. Also strong Fi-tert. Reclaiming Erebor is his personal obsession, and the Te he employs toward putting together the quest ultimately stems from this strong Fi value. Becomes too strong to the point of being unhealthy when he succumbs to dragon sickness; everything became about him and his power & ownership. Si-Fi loop again losing Te ability to see reason & assuming the worst about dealing w/the Lake-men & the elves. Ne-inf: Distrustful of suggestions that go against what he is used to or what he had a bad experience with before (i.e. Gandalf saying they should go to Rivendell & choosing Bilbo as the burglar). Develops it slightly throughout the film; comes to trust Bilbo's unconventional solutions (i.e. the barrels) but only after seeing first that they work (like when Bilbo saved him from the orcs, the moment he acknowledged his narrow, preconceived view of him was flawed - "I have never been so wrong in all my life").
