Personality

What personality type is Theon Greyjoy "Reek"? Theon Greyjoy "Reek" is an ESFP personality type in MBTI, 6w7 - sx/so - 638 in Enneagram, SLUEN in Big 5, SEE in Socionics.

𝗔 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗿𝗴𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗫𝟒>𝗦𝗣𝟐 𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗢𝟑 Theon's fundamental disposition is a constant sense of inadequacy. Born a Greyjoy but raised a Stark, Theon felt neither. Theon felt broken throughout his life. He believed that some people only needed to be born to be better than him. This was especially evident in his relationship with Robb. Robb is his best friend, but Theon secretly harbors a grudge against him, as the eldest Stark son always seemed like a better version of Theon. Every time he thought he might be able to become a Stark, he looked at Robb and realized his attempt was pointless. Robb didn't need to say or do anything: the feeling of "brokenness" was too deep within Theon's soul In fact, his envy of Robb actually grows to the level of hatred, which turns out to be stronger than friendship, as a result of which he betrays him, and then begins to devalue the Starks, saying that they have done nothing for him except capture I also believe it would be wrong to assume that the capture of Winterfell was done purely to please Balon. In fact, Theon's betrayal and the subsequent senseless, temporary capture of the Stark stronghold had deeper reasons: -Theon, who has been trying to build his identity as a Stark and constantly suffered "defeats" because of Robb, comes to his homeland -There he meets Yara. The situation is the same as in Winterfell: once again, a person better than Theon is preventing him from being anything -Theon, having given up on being a Stark, tries to build his identity as an ironborn, believing that if he can never defeat Robb, perhaps he can prove himself better than Yara -Decides to capture Winterfell (I don't think it's the most logical to assume that he did this purely because it was easy to capture, since everyone knew he couldn't hold it), as an attempt to establish his control over a place that he had devalued to the point that it only brought him pain So it was always about identity: because if he could prove that he was better than Yara, if he could completely renounce being a Stark, then he could finally have the certainty he was lacking To summarize, my point is that Theon's neurosis consists of a constant feeling of inadequacy, which leads to envy of both specific people and those who simply possess the identity he so desperately lacks, as well as to the devaluation of his "opponents." All of this perfectly reflects the SX4 psyche. Now I want to discuss why I don't think the other core options are good: SO3 stops working once you realize that E3s are emotionally "empty." They're distant and unintelligible, preferring to be an image rather than a person. No E3 would become so emotionally attached to their means of gaining validation. Moreover, why would Theon, someone so deeply tied to certain people (Robb, Yara), be socially instinct when he has no interest in social groups or social affairs whatsoever? The SP2 option is slightly better, but it still has a major problem. Passion of pride isn't just about "I'm so cool" or "I want validation NOW"; it's also the belief that you're pure of shame, and it's this belief that drives their attention-seeking behavior, because "If I'm so pure, then why don't I get what I deserve?" Theon has always felt and acknowledged his shame; yes, he tried to hide it on the outside, but inside, Theon understood everything. He openly admits this in a dialogue with Ramsay: -"Thought I was a Stark. Hah! I could never be a Stark. Robb Stark always reminded me of that." -"He lorded it over you?" -"Didn't have to. All he had to do was.......be. Be who he was born to be. His life fit him better than his clothes. How could someone like that ever be a brother to me?" Moreover, SX2 would be better than SP2. SP2 is a subtype who tries to manipulate others by making them feel like they need to be actively cared for. Theon always tries to be in charge whenever he can: something SP2s fear, as they feel unprepared I lowkey can't see him as anything other than an SX4: he's a pretty good representation of the type in my opinion

Biography

Theon Greyjoy was a son of Lord Balon Greyjoy of Pyke. After the deaths of his brothers Rodrik & Maron during Greyjoy’s Rebellion, Theon became the heir to Pyke. However, due to his warding at Winterfell he culturally detached from the Ironborn, wherefore his sister Yara was developing into their father’s successor.
