What personality type is Oliver? Oliver is an ENFJ personality type in MBTI, 3w2 - so/sp - 379 in Enneagram, SCUEI in Big 5, EIE in Socionics.
Obvious ENFJ. This guy prefers burying his whole identity and suffering for a lifetime with a loveless marriage rather than fighting with his family and with people (Fe) for his freedom. Not much of a devil’s advocate, because explaining the etymology of the word peach isn’t a Ne based confrontational debate, but rather a classic ENFJ teacher moment. Even when the Perlmans and their friends are all seated at the table discussing lively political and cultural matters he prefers to keep to himself and is concentrated on his feelings for Elio. When Elio playfully changes the piano melody Oliver was asking him to play, Oliver is accomodating and says "Forget I asked!". When Chiara tries to reach him, he prefers avoiding her rather than confronting her. Ti then is never there in the way he expresses himself, definitely not like an aux one. Actually, the approach he has to his (humanistic) studies highlights his J preference (leads with judging feeling function, Fe = inferior logical one, Ti): “this is going to set me back a whole day” he says when his sheets get mixed and then he gets frustrated when he doesn’t move forward according to the pace he has set for himself. His real aux function, Ni, is what makes him able to intuit the meaning of the Fi-Ne filled blabbering Elio uses to express himself, as in the famous scene at the war monument. When there is the scene with the peach, it's Oliver who is being playful and sensual (he has so much Se) because he founds Elio on that matress and Elio follows silently along at first, that's why Oliver takes a second to then notice he is actually upset and comfort him. He is such a Feeling personality he asked Elio to call him by his name, looking for complete emotional fusion, then gifted him one of his shirts to stay romantically connected even when far away from each other.
