Philip too says she is different and that she knows of kindness and compassion. This adding to the fact that she saves Philip's life in the movies and doing it again at the end, and also saving Angelica's life make her a person with strong convictions, especially when you consider that Angelica wasn't very kind to her. (I've heard people saying that she only brought the chalices to kill Blackbeard but this makes no sense- Both, Blackbeard and Angelica were mortally wounded without any chance of survival as long as they didn't have the chalices-and they didn't. If Syrena only wanted for him to die she wouldn't have needed to give the chalices to Jack- his death would have been even slower and more painful through the poison than it was when he drank from the wrong chalice and was killed within a few seconds by the fountain). She never attempts to kill or hurt anyone throughout the entire movie. And she has the chance several times-Philip when he frees her after she thinks he has been killed (she thought she was completely alone with him, he was already wounded, had no weapon or defenses and she had fully won his trust by that point-all she would have to do is pull him in). Biography

Syrena is a character from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides portrayed by French-Spanish actress Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey. She is a beautiful, enigmatic mermaid who swims against the tide of her more lethally-minded sisters of the sea. After her fellow mermaids attack Blackbeard’s crew at Whitecap Bay, Syrena and missionary Philip begin to recognize a quality in each other that draws them together, allowing them to become allies against a common enemy in Blackbeard. Each discover more of their true beings, but risk their lives when they listen to the sounds of their hearts.
