What personality type is Mirage? Mirage is an ISFP personality type in MBTI, 4w3 - sp/sx - 461 in Enneagram, RCUAN in Big 5, SEI in Socionics.
Since this analysis was first published, my knowledge of both cognitive functions and Mirage himself has grown a lot. He's grown a lot on me (I'm a simp). This message is here to indicate an extension to my analysis. The previous analysis was both grammatically incorrect, and shallow. One thing to note is that Mirage acts very differently in the Marvel comics than in the G1 cartoon. He is way more aggressive in Marvel. Mirage thinks for himself, and in fact, doesn't know why he's even sided with the Autobots. This indicates he's not really the type to speak up for himself. Yet, this is ironic, as he has a very strong sense of self (enneagram 4) and has a strong set of principles he acts off of (Fi dom). Although there is an argument for the ISTP and INFP types, his auxiliary Se shines brightest in his battle style. Not like the average ISFP, Mirage seems logic oriented, but this is tailored for battle, and may not be reflective of his true nature. It's perhaps... just a mirage. More on that in the next paragraph. This seems to be the case for a lot of other Cybertronians, for example, Cliffjumper, who appears to act off of Se but really acts off of Fe. Mirage's dominant function being Fi is not immediately obvious as he is depicted as one of the most intelligent Autobots. His strongest desire is to return home, get back to his life of luxury, showing as nostalgic Fi traits. He also does not like to fight, as he never felt he should, based on his life back on Cybertron. The argument for ISTP claims he uses Ti the most, however, it seems Mirage is pushed into thinking when it's his last resort, for example in war. If anything, he seems to rely on what's already out there, for inferior Te. In addition to his auxiliary Se, Mirage seems to value material goods. As he is a rich bot, this trait can be seen in his small talk with Hound about making a hologram of a "four car garage". As said before, Mirage is very contradictory in character, and while depicted as a thinker, likes to put his plans into action. He's not one to outline a plan to the others and let them do the work like Prowl would. This is made clear in "Traitor", where Mirage ignores his bodily needs to put his plan to turn the Decepticons and Insecticons against each other into play. Unlike the INFP, who has a romantic and dreamy nature, Mirage seems more practical and platonic. He doesn't predict as the auxiliary Ne does; he prefers to live in the past. His specs on his toy bio gives his skill a 10/10, making auxiliary Se very obvious. Mirage's desire to return to Cybertron is extremely evident, and is another trait that argues for dominant Fi. He is extremely sentimental in that regard, and works so hard for that in "More Than Meets the Eye Pt. 3", going as far as to risk sneaking onto the Nemesis and taking out the ship. The way Mirage goes about things there is indicative of tertiary Ni. He seemed to randomly get that hunch to sneak aboard from what's possibly an intuitive leap. And now, onto the enneagram. As mentioned before, he displays strong traits of the 4, having different values from the other Autobots, strongly sticking to them, and making his identity as a rich, life-loving aristocrat core to him. But how did he get to this place? Because of his 3 wing. He wants to make him and his achievements of wealth known to all, in a surprisingly humble way.
