Personality

What personality type is Wade Ripple? Wade Ripple is an ENFP personality type in MBTI, 9w1 - so/sx - 972 in Enneagram, SLOAI in Big 5, ESE in Socionics.

Okay, after reading the novelization of the movie “Unlikely Friends”, I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s no way that Wade is an EXFJ. His personal struggles and beliefs are extremely Fi-based. I’m gonna cite a few passages of the book: _”These feelings you’ve got, they’re pretty big, huh?” he [Wade’s father] asked. “Like a tidal wave you can’t stop?” […] “I want you to put your feelings into the ocean. Your big feelings. The ones that are so big and make you so scared it’s like you can’t control them.”_ Basically, the entire Chapter 3 is about Wade learning how to control his own feelings, which were as wild as the ocean itself. —- _Sixteen-year-old Wade sat spread out on the inflatable couch in the living room as an actual puddle. His eyes looked tearfully up at his dad. “The—The music,” he blubbered. […] “I was on my way to the waveball field when I heard the marching band practicing ‘Monsoon Mambo.’ It’s my favorite song!” “I don’t understand. You listened to the song for a whole half hour?” “No…” Wade sniffled. “I helped conduct the band.” Wade’s father blinked. “You missed your waveball tryout because you were conducting the marching band?” Though the words came out of his mouth, it almost looked like he was trying to make sense of a different language. “I told you he wouldn’t understand, Mom!” Wade howled, and splashed into a puddle again._ This sounds very much like a Se-Fi or Ne-Fi moment, with Wade impulsively joining an activity that piqued his interest than his tryout session. He did what he _felt_ like doing in the moment, uncaring of what his father wanted out of him. Sounds like a case of “rebellious” Fi to me. —- _Wade Ripple, now a grown man wearing a hard hat and a construction worker safety vest, stopped to examine it. The pebble was so tiny, so round. And yet it fit perfectly in this concrete landscape. “Do you ever wonder if we’re all just tiny stones fitting into the large mosaic of life?” Wade mused. […] “You know what I mean.” Wade swirled the pebble around the inside of his hard hat as he spoke. “Your family tree is huge. Have you ever wondered what would happen if one single branch hadn’t stretched out in the way it did? The whole family foliage would be different._ Obvious Ne curiosity and ramblings are obvious. He ponders about possibilities if only for the sake of wondering about possibilities. That’s very Ne. —- _”Years ago, I used to want to be in music.” “Music?” a Water worker named Bub interjected. “What kinda music?” “Oh, anything, really,” Wade said as he used a special machine to open a bag of concrete powder and pour it into the mixer. “I played the water glasses in the second-grade talent show once, but I kept accidentally filling them up with tears every time I made a mistake, so Mr. Marina told me to try something sturdier. Did the piccolo for a while. Even tried my hand at composing. Never got the notes just right.” […] “The rhythm is something you feel inside you. It’s not about precision. It’s about emotion.”_ Once again, trying out multiple possibilities. Also, the whole thing about precision vs emotion sounds like a XXXP trait. Also, the fact that he couldn’t get the notes right sounds a bit like low Se. —- _”He [Wade’s father] always insisted I needed to be more focused. Pick a current and stick with it. But I didn’t know what I wanted. I just needed time to explore all the options, you know? I thought eventually I’d convince him to see my side.”_ If this doesn’t sound like a clash of XXXP Wade with an XXXJ father, I don’t know what would. Exploring all options as Wade mentioned here is, like, one of the most defining traits of high Se or Ne users, and Wade is way too much focused on his own feelings and emotions to be an EXTP. —- So, for my final verdict, if we take the novelization as part of his character, then I’d say that Wade is the very definition of an ENFP. His poetic and philosophical views are very intuitive-oriented.
