What personality type is Emily Gilmore? Emily Gilmore is an ESTJ personality type in MBTI, 1w2 - so/sp - 136 in Enneagram, SLOEN in Big 5, LSE in Socionics.
Calm and classy lady. I'm only on season 2, but I'm pretty sure she's calm with some anger tendencies sometimes. I love this character. She reminds me so much of Bree Van de Kamp and Lily Van der Woodsen. All of which are cultured and collected ladies with their fair share of flaws. Mostly perfectionism and the need to control. Anyway, it's interesting also because Bree is an ISTJ and 1w2, they're both xSTJs with a touch of E2. Which makes them warmer and look as though they have Fe or feelers. But Emily is more flexible than Bree though. You can also see this with Lane's mom. Emily is less harsh with her rules and restrictions. She is somehow more adaptable. But in terms of vibes, she really is more like Lily. I guess it's that ESxJ tert Ne but also maybe because they are both Choleric-Phlegmatics and 1Vs? Anyway, I really don't see her as Fe dom. Maybe ESFJ. But why ENFJ? The whole point of Lorelai hating, feeling misunderstood by, and running away from her parents is because she feels suffocated and is the complete opposite of them. If Emily was an ENFJ, she'll understand her daughter better and maybe make her feel more comfortable for who she is and embrace her individuality or at least respect it more, make her feel accepted, seen, and heard. And if she was an ENFJ, they'll share that NF idealism. xSTJs giving birth to an ENFP 😂 As for her Enneagram, I think E2. She has this need to be needed or at least feel needed. I mean her first scene alone was about giving the loan so as long as they meet their grand daughter every week. And she felt threatened when her mother-in-law offered to open a trust fund for Rory because they might abandon her because they would no longer need her. And I see pride as well. She's angry because she's always doing her best and people seem to not appreciate it by not doing their best or at least their part in return. She doesn't get why Lorelai turned out the way she did, because all she knows is she did all she had to. That reminds me, this is why she's probably an Si user. "It was supposed to be you up there.. This wasn't how things were supposed to be." Or something along the lines. Also why I chose w1. Anyway, she's really attached to tradition and how things are supposed to be aka the ideals she's used to. Of course, that can just be because she's an ExxJ w1 WASP. After all, regardless of personality, old money people seem to have not much desire to get out of their bubble or social circle unless they're Prince Harry of course. I mean, they just seem to do whatever they can to uphold their social status, and maintain their stealth wealth. As a community, they're already very Si in values. I mean I don't want to be biased here you know. Especially because I haven't watched all the seasons yet. Anyway, back to her enneagram. I think she's a social 2. I remember this episode where Richard causes them to miss a lot of social events and dismisses their importance. Emily defends them. To her they're not just social engagements. I forgot what exactly she said but she mentioned how it's an important obligation to her and means so much more to her. She's a very understanding Te dom. I love her! She's very different from Paris but don't get me wrong I love her too. Everytime I'd see Emily angry, I think of Olivia Rodrigo's song 'Brutal' but if it were posh and sophisticated in a vintage Chanel/YSL skirt suit and 'Dynasty' hair, Connecticut fashion. She is grace personified 😗💅 Don't know if she's hated but she's my fave character in the show along with Paris Geller. ExTJs FTW!
Biography
Lorelai's wealthy and controlling mother with whom she has been estranged with most of her adult life. Emily insists on being involved in her daughter and granddaughter's lives after allowing her to borrow money for Rory's tuition, much to Lorelai's dismay.
