Jason Gideon MBTI Personality Type

Personality

What personality type is Jason Gideon? Jason Gideon is an INFJ personality type in MBTI, 5w6 - sx/so - 592 in Enneagram, RCOAI in Big 5, IEI in Socionics.

I have been thinking about this a lot, probably more than I should be lol, but I really think that Reid’s and Gideon’s enneagram types are the same: 5w6. And I wanted to talk a bit about why. At first I was like “Gideon doesn’t feel that much like a core 5” but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense for him to be. I played around for a bit with the idea of him possibly being a 9 but I don’t see his core fear being conflict but more just not being able to be competent enough to save everyone which definitely aligns much more with 5. He also is an amazing problem-solver, more private, sensitive but hates to show it. He is so patient and cautious and knows exactly when to speak and what to say because he analyzes so many things at once. That is what strongly pulls me to say his core is 5. Also, the fact type 5s grow through 8, so when he was healthy, he was able to be assertive and trust his instincts; this plus his quick analyzing, attention to detail and patience made him one of the best profilers there was. But 5s also stress through 7, making them become scattered, distracted, impulsive, hyperactive, less confident in their abilities, etc. and we saw all of those things happen. Gideon said that he could only be a good profiler if he was confident in his abilities so when he lost that he started to spiral and impulsively was just like “what is happening, I can’t do this job anymore, I need to get away and figure stuff out on my own.” I would say Gideon’s 4 and 6 wings are much more balanced than Spencer’s, though, but to be fair Reid is much younger than him. But I think they both naturally lean more towards 6. What is so beautiful about Reid’s and Gideon’s relationship is, of course Gideon was naturally perceptive, but he was particularly empathetic when it came to Reid because, I think they definitely have a different MBTI, but their enneagram both being 5w6 (in theory) means they understood how the other wanted to be validated which I always found just so amazing and beautiful. Like how Gideon would say “it’s Dr. Reid.” And you could always tell that most of the time they understand the other’s actions, or almost just instinctively knew what the other wanted or sometimes even needed. I only hope to one day find an understanding as beautiful as the kind they shared. When Gideon spiraled and left Reid the way he did it just broke my heart because their relationship was one of my favorites I think in probably all of tv history. It was just so amazing that bond they had.

Biography

One of the founding members of the BAU, Gideon served as an older, experienced wise mentor-type team member in the first two seasons of the show, being the frontmost expert in profiling. Though intellectual and slightly eccentric, he was still much more grounded than Dr. Reid. Due to a series of events starting in Season 1 involving serial killer Frank Breitkopf, Gideon eventually leaves the show at the start of Season 3.
