Personality

What personality type is Stanford Pines “Grunkle Ford”? Stanford Pines “Grunkle Ford” is an INTJ personality type in MBTI, 5w6 - so/sp - 513 in Enneagram, RCOEI in Big 5, LII in Socionics.

1. Dominant introverted iNtuition [Ni] Ford has always been attracted to the abstract and interconnectedness of the unexplainable. Ford preoccupies his time with the reason behind things. He puts this knowledge first and lets this dictate how the rest of the world and systems should align. Ni likes to make sure that all patterns follow a linear and singular narrative. This is how Ford approaches the mysteries of Gravity Falls. Sometimes this can get Ford so bogged down in the details of the mysteries that he misses the bigger picture and system. Despite Ni being more future focused rather than present, it is still internal and focused on details. Although these aren’t the concrete Si details, but more intellectual in nature, they are still details and NOT the overall picture. As an Ni dominant Ford is always taking these details in trying to form solutions, which can make him appear more like an observer than someone being active. This is why when he appears with the rest he often isn’t the center of attention nor seem like a major player. INTJs, because of their Ni, often take a role of a mentor, whether or not they know anything. That is the magic of the INTJ personality. Their Te can make them stand offish and their dominant Ni makes them take on an observing role. Thereby they often give the appearance and confidence of being all knowing. Most of the time their observations to make them able to predict what is going to happen next, but Ni allows people to make jumps, even if linear, in thought. Intuition whether introverted or extraverted, always connects patterns without concrete proof. Little do outsiders know how much guess work is going on within an INTJ just as it does with other intuitive types. Therefore despite his intellect and all the work he did, there is a reason this “all-knowing” mentor character is not the center savior of the day. In fact, INTJs often feel uncomfortable being in that role. (Unless they go evil, even then by the time you know they were the cause of your destruction, it is typically too late). INTJs are called “The Mastermind” because they would much rather use their knowledge to influence situations and others into place than do the work themselves. (Another stark contrast between the INTJ and ENTJ). 2. Secondary extraverted Thinking [Te] Ford uses this line of inquiry to identify logical systems. He isn’t stuck in unraveling the way things are, but asking why things are the way they are and if they truly are the way they are. If this sounds confusing, that is because that is how Ni-Te always operates, and why the INxJ types can be off-putting to others. Because he has Te, he likes to apply his Ni to puzzles and not really to people. He leads to uncover these mysteries and doesn’t typically put a lot of emphasis on the people in his life. Ford, like all INTJs, is eager to acquire knowledge as the observer in order to get to usable solutions. While the INTP likes knowledge for knowledge sake, INTJs want their knowledge to be used for something practical. While an INTP is more comfortable with never knowing an answer, an INTJ like Ford can dedicate their whole lives to putting a nice bow to the chaos of information. Ford forever endeavors to find an answer to abnormal phenomenon within Gravity Falls and this is what drives him to be consumed by his mission, the need to sort chaos. 3. Tertiary introverted Feeling [Fi] His Fi dictates a lot about himself. He is constantly trying to explore his own identity. Having six fingers leads to an interest into the mysterious side of fiction overlapping with the supernatural. Like many introverts his internal experiences dictate what his interests in the external world are. The more he can explain the external phenomenons the closer he feels to finding answers to his own existence, identity, and that all too familiar Fi individuality. However, the more Ford isolates himself from the outside world, the more he recedes into his inward world and finds comfort in his Fi. He becomes paranoid of others, only trusting his own experiences of Ni-Fi. As he was already isolating himself, once Bill comes around it becomes quite easy to manipulate Ford. Bill comes along confirming Ford’s perception of Gravity Falls and the world while stroking his ego. By giving him crumbs of more information, making Ford feel he is solving the mysteries of the town, he is able to fool Ford. 4. Inferior extraverted Sensation [Se] Ford lives so internally that he often forgets the direct concrete surroundings around him. He prefers to work on his theories and let them direct him. Hence why his first choice was to go to a university to explore these ideas rather than to sail around the world with his brother.
