Jim Hopper MBTI Personality Type

Personality

What personality type is Jim Hopper? Jim Hopper is an ISTP personality type in MBTI, 8w9 - sp/sx - 862 in Enneagram, RLUEN in Big 5, SLI in Socionics.

can we stop this pdb trend of typing angry characters as e8? he fits sx6 so much better. the way he acts with el and mike, he is obviously scared of losing her [as seen in the letter to her read at the end of s3] and he is scared of something bad happening to her throughout seasons 1-3. how does he react to this fear? lashing out, like a sx6 would, against these threat; he yells at mike, he yells at el so that she stops going out, etc. alot of things on the "type 6 checklist" made by Chestnut is also very obvious in Hopper; regardless of the fact hes the sexual subtype. "You focus much of your attention on risks, dangers, or threats. You allow about 20 percent of actual risks to occupy 80 percent of your thoughts." he is obviously scared something will happen to Eleven due to what happened with his dead daughter, he is always looking out for her and making sure she stays inside so she doesn’t get taken by the lab. it is a constant theme shown that he is scared of potential risks with that. plus, he literally became the sheriff so he could protect the people he loves, is that not obvious enough? alot of Chestnut’s other points also reiterate this: "You believe that, unless you mentally elaborate worst-case scenarios, you won’t feel adequately prepared for them." "You try to control what actually does happen by imagining what might happen before you take action." ”You habitually stay vigilant so you can scan for potential problems. This makes you feel more tense and anxious than most people." so, now let’s look at the sexual 6 subtype. " This subtype is more confrontational, intense, and intimidating. They respond to fear by expressing anger. For them, the best defense is a good offense. They come across as strong and they usually don’t feel or express their own fear or vul- nerability. Although fear drives their behaviors, it tends to be more unconscious. They are “counterphobic” and move against perceived danger from a position of strength. At times, this gives them the appearance of rebels, risk-takers, adrena- line junkies, or troublemakers." [the best defense is a good offense; they come across as strong and dont feel or expresstheir own fear or vulnerability] this clearly fits Hopper very well and explains all his behaviours especially with Mike in s3 "If this is your subtype, you act from fear, not courage, when you move toward risks and express strength and aggression. You intimidate others as a way of coping with fear and to ward off attacks. " LITERALLY WHAT HE DID WITH MIKE TO PROTECT ELEVEN!! alot of sexual 6’s can be mistaken for enneagram 8’s, and Hopper generally aligns more with sx6 than e8 in my opinion. he is driven by fear rather than lust, and he does not seek out new, thrilling experiences. though he absolutely has an 8 fix and wants to appear as stronger than he actually is, he does not show vulnerability to appear stronger, as most sx68x do. also, his 4 fix is very visible in season 4 when he is speaking with Dmitri about Joyce and his dead daughter. so yeah in conclusion, i believe he’s an ISTP sx684!
