BEFORE WE ALL HATE THIS CHARACTER Spoilers Okay I can already smell the hate that’s about to pour in for this character, so I’m gonna try and be the calm before the storm. First, did he do a dumb thing in the end by saving the Colonel? Absolutely. It was a dumb decision in the end with probably a lot of consequences in the future movies, and saving him didn’t outweigh all of the damage the Colonel caused with the others. But cmon can’t we cut him some slack? You gotta keep some things in mind. 1. This guy is his father. Maybe all of the terrible things he did would outweigh that, but I think people are going to underestimate how hard it would be to leave a father or even family member behind no matter how terrible they are. The kid was literally tortured and this was the guy who showed him some mercy by treating him alright. It’s a very high possibility that Spider was under Stockholm syndrome (though I’m no psychologist) and that he started to get closer to the Colonel so even if what he did was stupid you can’t blame him for all the stuff he was putt through. Not only that, but the Colonel saved Spider’s life in the end by letting Kiri go and showing that he did really care about Spider 2. NEYTIRI DID NOT CARE ABOUT SPIDER IN THE END. There is too much evidence to support this. The beginning of the movie she states “He should be with his own kind” hinting that she was not fond of him. If it came to Spider or her own family, she was going to save her own family because she did not see Spider as one of her own. Which is why in the finale act where she was willing to kill him for Kiri we see Neytiri’s true feelings about Spider. You may say it was a bluff but I don’t think so. She was under a ton of stress losing her son and was willing to do anything to save her family members at the cost of killing Spider. (A son for a son). Do these two reasons make up for the really dumb decision Spider made in the end? Absolutely not. But I think it’s unfair to hate a character like this when he had gone through so much and had seen what his real father was like. In terms of type, he’s an obvious ESFP. While I don’t have a lot of information to base this on, it’s clear that he acts based on two things, his senses and inner feelings pointing to a high Se-Fi dominance. He seems to be very in the moment and doesn’t dwell on possibilities or anything of the kind.
