Scorcese has a reaccuring theme in his films of pretty women dressed in white like an "angelic figure" to Travis in this case. When she's introduced with Bertrand Hermann's score it's beautiful and poignant. One of my favorite scenes in one of my favorite films. Then inevitably Travis realizes she's a human with perceived faults and that just propels him deeper into the dark corners of his mind.
