Biography
Leofric is a Saxon military man and warrior who serves Alfred. He is the uncle of Osferth. Weathered and worldly, Leofric is straight talking, uncomplicated, but a reasonable man. He initially dislikes Uhtred, whom he nicknames ‘Arseling’ but a close bond is soon struck between crude curmudgeonly Leofric and fellow warrior Uhtred. Leofric dies in battle at Ethandun, where he personally kills the traitor Wulfhere. After meeting Osferth, Uhtred recalls his dead friend and says that "Leofric was a great man". After Uhtred flees Wessex and becomes feverish, he sees a vision of Leofric, as one of Alfred's most loyal soldiers, rebuking him for his betrayal, which may be one of the reasons of Uthred returns to Wessex from his brother Ragnar.
