Personality

What personality type is Borsalino “Kizaru”? Borsalino “Kizaru” is an ENTP personality type in MBTI, 9w8 - sp/so - 973 in Enneagram, RCUEN in Big 5, SLI in Socionics.

I used to hate the ENTP typing for Kizaru because we don't really see the usual trademarks of ENTPs, like a thirst for knowledge or even an exuberant search for fun. But when we break down the cognitive stack, it's quite difficult to put anything other than Ne as his dominant function. He's sarcastic, whimsical and constantly exudes a trollish demeanor, with Oda specifically contrasting his irresponsible behavior (inferior Si) with the moral codes of the other admirals like Akainu (militaristic ESTJ), Aokiji (independent INTP/INFP) and Fujitora (idealistic INFJ). All three of them actually care about things, while Kizaru treats everything playfully. I can definitely respect the ISTP typing since his Ti does seem very high, but I can't particularly see him having Se as an important function. His devil fruit allows him to move at the speed of light, which can sometimes give off the impression that he relies on Extraverted Sensing, but even when he fights he's always taking his time, being laid back and never really getting into the "heat" of the battle the way a Se Dom or Se Aux would. Characters likes Luffy, Zoro, Oden etc are good examples of how people with high Se act in Oda's world, Kizaru is far too relaxed even in the midst of battle to be categorized with them. If anything, the fact that he comes off as laid back and whimsical despite having a devil fruit literally made for people with good Se, is evidence of his lack of dependence on Se. Why not INTP? That would be a good argument too and would essentially boil down to whether his inferior function is Si or Fe. Oda has stated that the original three admirals are based on on the Japanese folktale of the boy who climbed the mountain with the loyal dog (red dog Akainu), the lazy pheasant (blue pheasant Aokiji) and the irresponsible monkey (yellow monkey Kizaru). I would say the foundation is based far more on inferior Si than inferior Fe at that point. We should also note that Kizaru is the only admiral who doesn't give a f*ck about the system's hierarchy. Akainu and Aokiji even fought each other for the Fleet Admiral spot while Kizaru simply didn't care for the hierarchy, despite being OLDER than both of them. Finally, Kizaru's motto is "Unclear Justice", suggesting an ENTP-esque attitude towards the world. Much like Doflamingo's marineford speech about how "justice' and "evil" are simply labels given to the winners and losers, Kizaru's motto is not about moral convictions or conventional narratives. He understands that justice is not a concept etched in stone and that it's fluid/unclear, once again suggesting a Ne/Ti combo along with inferior Si. That's my basic take on it, so after nearly 15 years of reading One Piece, I can finally say I'm satisfied with the ENTP typing for Borsalino. Of course, all of this is only based on what we know about him now. Something could come up in the very next chapter which radically changes everything, we've simply got to keep an open mind about the possibility of being wrong.
