Kurashita Tsukimi MBTI Personality Type
Personality
What personality type is Kurashita Tsukimi? Kurashita Tsukimi is an INFP personality type in MBTI, 9w1 - so/sp - 469 in Enneagram, RLOAN in Big 5, EII in Socionics.
tsukimi oozes social 4 (and just enneagram 4 in general). the subtype is often mistaken for sp6s and maybe even 9s due to their external softness and warmth (repression of needs) and their intense internal struggle, but i'd like to share why i think 4 fits her best. the series opens with tsukimi thinking to herself (but addressed to her dead mom), "i wasn't able to become a princess, but instead…i don't know where i went wrong, i became an otaku." here, the 4's coping mechanism of introjection is evident. (i do not see 6 or 9's coping mechanisms, projection and narcotization, as quite as central to her character--even if they're there in passing, the fact this is the opening monologue/basis of the series is essential! both kuranosuke and tsukimi are very much heart triad, i think). tsukimi takes a passing remark from her mother in childhood (jellyfish and princesses and whanot) and internalizes this image of ideal womanhood. she measures herself up against it and determines she has is lacking in comparison. therefore, tsukimi feels that she has somehow failed in the process of becoming who she is and disappointed her mom (who isn't around to tell her this imagined disappointment is/isn't true). this sense of deficiency, of being less than is classic so4. chesnut writes, "for this subtype, there is a need for self-abasement and self-recrimination, for turning against oneself, for self-weakening... envy is expressed through a passion for comparing oneself with others and winding up in the lowest position... they have a poor self-image that they themselves perpetuate. they also engage in self-sabotage a lot: they regularly underestimate themselves and always feel 'less than' in comparison to others... the social four may evoke a response in others that makes them want to ask, 'what's wrong with you that you think there's something wrong with you?'" tsukimi's journey is one of growth: recognizing her beauty, individuality, and artistry and that none of those things are as cut-and-dry as they seem. kuranosuke, a 3 who focuses on embodying a certain image, helps her realize this. he evokes envy in tsukimi (another e4 thing) but also encourages her to grow. kuranosuke represents the introjected gender expectation (jellyfish/princess) to which tsukimi feels she should aspire and has failed to fulfill (fueling her low self-esteem). however, tsukimi also clings onto the authenticity and sense of belonging outside of social expectation she has found in her geekiness (hence her fear of betraying geekdom). very much type 4! like 6s and 9s, social 4s can have a sort of helplessness to them. i feel like their response to threats (e.g. things evoking envy) is freeze rather than flight (reminds me of sp4) or fight (reminds me of sx4). the petrification gag whenever she and the sisterhood see stylish people is a funny little example of this. social 4s can also be giving, neglecting their own needs. chesnut writes, "they tend to be generous and to do for others, but they do not take responsibility for their own lives and may dramatize problems to distract themselves from doing something to find a solution." tsukimi often needs to be pushed into action (which kuranosuke just naturally does haha). when left on her own, she will wallow in her own misery. she will help others before helping herself, which adds to her feelings of helplessness. i went a little overboard on this thread--if you'd like clarification about any of the ideas, let me know! the slew of so4 INFPs mistyped as 9s and sp6s on this website is agonizing (maybe because i'm a so4 INFP who likes to recognize my struggles in others lol...)
