What personality type is Shouya Ishida? Shouya Ishida is an ISTP personality type in MBTI, 6w7 - sp/sx - 694 in Enneagram, RLUAI in Big 5, SLI in Socionics.
Shouya is definitely an ISTP. I think that much is obvious, especially throughout the second half of the movie. I believe that he showed more extroverted traits during his childhood, but I don't think that ultimately has any real effect on his MBTI. He develops Fe throughout the course of the movie, and in the beginning he relied on his Ti and Se when trying to justify why he was bullying Shouko, thinking that it was justified because he couldn't "understand" her, and it was something new to do that others were doing as well. He develops Fe more after he starts getting bullied, and is able to strongly empathize with others who are experiencing similar struggles (i.e. Shouko, who he bullied in the past, and Nagatsuka, who was being harassed by another student over his bike). He deeply regrets his actions in past, like bullying Shouko and hanging around people who also participated in the bullying and who weren't good influences to him, and wants to fix them, but doesn't always know how to (for instance, when he went to go apologize to Shouko before his suicide attempt, but came across as very awkward and didn't really know what to do or how to react when finally face-to-face with her), so he relies on Ni. His Ni becomes more developed throughout, as relies on it heavily to be able to connect with those around him and open up more, like when he takes Shouko on "dates" and tries his best to find things that would appeal to her, and letting her hang out with him and his friends, as to help make up for the bullying in the past. As for temperaments, I definitely feel like Shouya is more of a phlegmatic-melancholic than a dominant phlegmatic. I've come to this conclusion based on some of the weaknesses that he's shown throughout the movie (such as his severe depression, cutting himself off from others, and his self-pity). He's determined to make it up to Shouko, but doesn't appear to have a lot of confidence in his ability to do that, and appears to be quite pessimistic at times. Of course, this is just what I've noticed. Take what I say with a grain of salt.
