Personality

What personality type is Margaret “Peggy” Olson? Margaret “Peggy” Olson is an INFJ personality type in MBTI, 6w5 - so/sx - 631 in Enneagram, RLOAI in Big 5, LSI in Socionics.

Peggy has clear Ni-Fe-Ti-Se. She has stronger Ti because her job requires her to use more of it. For those who argue for her being an ISTJ- you must realize that it would mean she has dominant Si? And an underappreciated aspect of Si types is their ability to accurately sense bodily sensations and sensation-impressions. It can tell warmth, dryness, aches, burns, fatigue, pain, etc. Even differentiate them. By that logic, Peggy is clearly NOT an Si type. She could not even tell she was pregnant until it became time to deliver the baby. An Si type would have snuffed it out next to immediately; beyond just sensation-impressions, they are quite aware of their own bodies and its idiosyncrasies. Her way of using Se is worse than Don's. She smokes, drinks and takes drugs to enhance her idea-forming process. She does most of it unconsciously. She's awkward with her body, unsure of style in the earlier seasons until she slowly develops both the finances and the awareness to be better. During the fifth season, the company was nearly about to lose a deal with Chevalier Blanc. Peggy, Harry and Ken were on the call. They were clicking out until Peggy stepped in. She took the exact same idea and changed it to be aimed at women instead. And this is Ni over Ne- instead of presenting a completely new set of ideas, she took the previous idea and simply developed/put a twist on it. The 'internal image' itself is the same, but the target of the ad simply shifted. "I know what I'm supposed to want, but it just never feels right." Peggy's Fe is clear as day. She makes sure to notice and compliment people, avoids unwanted conflicts and makes sure nobody ever feels bad. She is adaptive to how people feel and usually tries to encourage them to get into a better mood. And Peggy's last straw with Don is when he used force on her- threw money at her face. She didn't try to prolong an argument with Don, she attempted quickly to find another job. When Joan is leaving Sterling Cooper in the second season, she immediately wanted to buy her something. This was because she didn't want Joan to feel that her advice was never taken seriously or valued- stating that not everyone can be like her. She felt bad for not listening, so she tried to remedy that by attempting to buy her a gift in compensation. I don't see someone with non-existent Fe doing that. If Fi is stronger, maybe. But she takes initiative when it comes to emotional bonds and relationships, often giving herself away in the process. Her empathy is evident many times in the series. She is polite, friendly and candid with everyone. And she wasn't assertive at all. That's something to keep in mind. I don't see a Te-user struggle with such things. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but Peggy was somewhat of a doormat in the earlier seasons. Don himself is the one to tell her to fire the guy (Jerry) who was ridiculing Joan- to prove she is to be respected. Her view of external logic is weak to non-existent. She cares about 'creating something that lasts', which is her definition of success. Not climbing positions, not workplace nuances, not maintenance of external systems. Her Ti is quite evident as well, her Te non-existent. INFJs can have present Fi, just like INTJs have somewhat present Ti. Look it up. Also Don, another Ni/Se user, says this: “Peggy, just think about it. Deeply. Then forget it. And an idea will jump up in your face.” And she does exactly that. It works for the two of them because of the way they are cognitively similar. She doesn't have any Ne. Her mind doesn't inch on several possibilities, but often narrows down, condenses, filters. It dislikes leaving options; it fixates on closure and accomplishment of this 'internal image' (as Jung would put it). A surefire sign of Ni. When she's high, she confides in her secretary with statements like: "I will succeed" and "I will rise above my current ranks". She has insights that others don't, often reaching conclusions after gaining information from the external environment (Se). I personally relate a lot to her. She's such a great character. Edit: extra points added =)
