1.) My typing for Orochimaru: ILE SP E7 FLVE Being that the consensus seems to agree with in that Orochimaru is an ENTP ILE and EN(T), I will mostly be focusing on his enneagram and PY for this analysis. Starting with his enneagram. From the beginning, Orochimaru has always struck me as an E7, his Gluttony for knowledge and things is off the charts, never satisfied with what he gets, he always wants to learn and get more and more. This is yet another smart, curious and intellectual type character that got mistaken for an E5, which pains me to see. While Orochimaru does have the knowledge driven nature of E5, thats about as far as E5 goes for him. When comparing him to the actual E5s on the anime such as Shikamaru and Sai, you can see that Orochimaru is far more assertive, active, extroverted, engaged, controlling and much less withdrawn and passive than either of then. SO5s are still passive and conflict avoiding for those who don’t know, in fact they were also described as being the most withdrawn of the 5s in the new book. Orochimaru also does not have much if not any of the Avarice/Greedy tendencies . Going over E5 traits and how E5s Avarice works. “The passion of Avarice/Greed causes the Five to be detached and isolated, as they feel the world will catastrophically drain them and believe they must withdraw to prevent that.” “ Trap: Observer For him life is fascinating to watch from a safe hidden place, but is much too terrifying to take part in.” “In the type 5 we find an unconscious and complete shutting out of the world that results in a limited and specific form of experience that denotes an absence of experience, where everything and everyone (including themselves) external from the head is observed with interest: to understand, to amuse; and to use as a vehicle to sharpen ideas and theories generated from their interests. “Due to this very specific form of existence, they don't wish to interfere with their environment, and they don't wish for their environment to interfere with them, therefore, are very sensitive to their boundaries against their environment. Unlike the 9s, who are accommodating and receptive, the 5s are not.” “Postponement of Action: A weak instinctual centre, which results from their orientation to purely observing and not participating. An unconscious chronic difficulty mobilizing anger and feelings, therefore, a lack of need to concretely exist in the environment. When they do act, it's with an intentionality that's almost unsettling: actions aren't wasted, they're almost single-minded in how they interact with the environment. Bypass the emotional centre, or any need for context and move straight into their reason for engagement.” “ We may say that isolation is a core of type V character in that the characteristic detachment not only from people but more generally from the world (including one’s own body) depends on the inactivation of feelings “ As shown above, Avarice makes E5s very isolated and reluctant to engage in the world, replace living with learning, while also having a fear of being engulfed. Most of which doesn’t apply to Orochimaru, who went straight towards the things he wanted in a a very direct way, simultaneously trying to eliminate anything that could get in his way (which is typical of enneagrams in the Assertive Triad), as shown in many of his interactions with Naruto, Sasuke, the Akatsuki, the 3rd Hokage. Jiraiya, etc. In many of these interactions, the first thing that came to his kind when he discovered they’d get in his way was how to eliminate them, which shows that he fits the Assertive Triad better than the Withdrawn triad. How can a character like him who managed and controlled groups of trainees, prisoners and ruthlessly went after his goals and wants in the world ever be a passive observer type enneagram? ““I find it very interesting to watch things in motion. I get no pleasure when the world is still, like a windmill that isn’t turning. I suppose some might find it beautiful, even if it’s immobile. But to me, such a thing is truly boring. So now, I want to put things in motion myself.”” ~Orochimaru (this quote is just one of the many examples that shows hows he’s not the observer that E5s are, and is more of a participant.) Another thing is, Orochimaru has never been shown to have any the weaknesses of E5, such as being hypersensitive, conflict avoidant, or being passive (like having issues with asserting himself or taking action). Instead he shows many of the issues typical of E7, such as Narcissism, Rebelliousness, hedonism.
