What personality type is Nadeko Sengoku? Nadeko Sengoku is an INFP personality type in MBTI, 4w3 - sp/sx - 469 in Enneagram, RLUAI in Big 5, SEI in Socionics.
I think that Nadeko is INFP, or at least Fi dom. It's been quite some time since I have seen the show so correct me if I am wrong on anything. The main reason I think this is just because she is very self centered on her own feelings and emotions. I don't mean to say Fe users can't be like this, but it comes off differently. An INFJ yandere-ish character will at least believe they are acting on behalf of their love interest, but we never see this from Nadeko. It's blatantly all about what she wants, what she desires, she never even seems to consider Araragi as a person outside of her own desire for him. She wants to make Araragi love her, but one reason she fails is she seems incapable of considering or prioritizing what Araragi actually values, wants or desires (no Fe). Even her Nadeko Medusa OP has her saying "I want everything". She doesn't want to protect Araragi or make him happy, she wants to make him love and fulfill her. Her way of manipulating others seems also to come from weaponizing her own sense of victimhood or emotional distress. What comes to mind is that scene when she ignores the teacher by looking down in discomfort until he goes away. It doesn't seem like a very Fe way to do things to me, it's like a bid to get her way by forcing the other party to acknowledge and prioritize how she feels and feel sorry for her. She also seems to initially lack full awareness of her manipulative behavior, because she does so reflexively to avoid inner emotional turmoil or discomfort, which Fi is very sensitive to, and feels that anything she does to this end is justified due to prioritization of herself over others. This strikes me as more Fi dom as well, when Fe users manipulate others they generally seem more aware of what they are doing, even if they feel justified in it. Fe is also diplomatic, which doesn't describe Nadeko. She does work to preserve an image of herself as a cute, sweet and harmless girl, but the question is her motive for doing this. It's not that she wants to live up what others expect and desire of her (Fe), but that she wants to use it as a protective shield that keeps her from having to be vulnerable or deal with uncomfortable situations (Fi). The reason she ultimately breaks out of this is because she can no longer tolerate the stifling of her authentic self (again Fi) just for the sake of her own peace and comfort. The scene where she snaps in the classroom always seemed to me like repressed, inferior Te coming out in full force, and it's all about calling everyone out for being fake (Fi-Te values "being real"). While she does go along with the group, it's more from cowardice or fear of standing out than true alignment with group values. I also don't see a lot of arguments for Ni beyond "she imagined a future with Araragi and idealized him," which doesn't feel like a very strong point to me. Her fixation on a childhood crush could just as easily be pegged as Si imo. Both types are idealistic, have rich inner lives and can easily fixate on others, and developing a rich fantasy out of infatuation is easily an INFP trait. While it's possible she has Ni I can't possibly see it as dominant. She has no ambition beyond drawing manga that she finds it painfully embarrassing for others to see (which also feels rather Fi), no real sense that she's a long term planner in any way outside of vague fantasy, no sense of Ni-style predictive intuitiveness. I could see ISFP as I'm less sure of Se-Ni vs Ne-Si, but I don't see how she could be an INFJ. Her whole arc is about her realizing how much she's limited and stifled herself by hiding behind self-victimization in order to avoid conflict or emotional discomfort. Her "solution" is starting to realize she doesn't have to keep hiding herself from others and seeing herself as a victim of their standards (inferior Te), and pouring herself into her outlet for creative expression which is healthy and productive, instead of pouring herself into obsessive fantasies over another person as escapism.
Biography
Nadeko Sengoku (千石 撫子, Sengoku Nadeko) is Tsukihi Araragi's childhood friend and an acquaintance of Tsukihi's brother Koyomi Araragi. She was a victim of a painful curse that caused an invisible snake to coil around her and manifest scars that resemble snake scales.
