What personality type is Hitagi Senjougahara? Hitagi Senjougahara is an INTJ personality type in MBTI, 6w5 - sx/sp - in Enneagram, RCOEI in Big 5, EIE in Socionics.
I want to bring attention back to Hitagi’s enneagram since the votes have raised a lot since my first comment, however they have slowed down as of recent and I want to shine the light on what I think is the biggest issue with her current typing. I will both debunk 5 core and sx5 for her, as well as provide reasoning as to why she is a 6 core, and why her subtype is that of sx6. Firstly, let’s look at the two passions of 5 and 6. The passion of the 5 is the passion of avarice, this causes the 5 to feel that the outside world will catastrophically drain them and they believe they must withdraw to prevent that, becoming detached and isolated in the process, usually minimizing their needs. On the other side of things, a 6 core is fixated upon fear or anxiety, this causes the 6 to be suspicious and worried, they are aware of what could go wrong and don’t want to be endangered, hence they want to put their trust into the right people, beliefes and methods. At the first glance, it’s easy to see why people would see 5 is fitting for Hitagi. When we meet her at the start of the series, she’s very detached, aloof and avoiding of everyone. However, the problem is that Hitagi isn’t driven by avarice, she isn’t detached because she feels that the world will drain her, she’s more in line with the passion of anxiety, as we’ve seen Hitagi is very anxious and distrustful of the world around her. Your enneagram mainly stems from your childhood and traumas that came with it, and your enneagram type shows in what ways you cope with it along with what traits you show, in Hitagi’s case, her distrust of the world and her anxiety come from what we learn at the end of Bakemonogatari’s first arc. Off passions we can see that 6 core is more fitting for her. However, a passion isn’t everything that makes a type so now we can move over to some 5 traits that are conflicting with her. The type 5 along with the type 4 is seen on the bottom of the Enneagram circle. This means that these two types are „hypersensitive“ as opposed to 9, which is at the top of the circle, described as the „undersensitive“ type. This leads the 5 to be be vulnerable when dealing with objects and people. They dislike disturbing the world and bringing attention to themselves, as they want to not be seen and detach from it. If we look further we can also see other traits that can be seen in 5s but don’t apply to Hitagi, such as postponement of action, pathological detachment, retentivness and guilt to name a few. If you’re interested in reading what these mean more in depth, I will link a source with all of these explained. Now, let’s take a look at 6 core and some traits present in it. We’ve talked about the passion of anxiety and how it causes the 6 to be distrustful of the world, imagine dangers, dislike the unknown, disliking betrayal and so on. Another 6 trait we can see in hitagi is „over-alert hyperintentionality“ which causes the 6 to be suspicious, look for hidden meanings and be over-cautious. To Hitagi this applies fairly well too, as seen in Hitagi End, where she still continues to doubt Kaiki despite being the one to hire him, and trying to uncover if he has any hidden motives, of course, this isn’t just limited to this arc, as Hitagi constantly did this even prior, as far back as Bakemonogatari, like with Araragi mentioning Kanbaru and Hitagi immediately jumping to conclusions about it and trying to dig deeper to see if he’s maybe cheating. This can also be linked to 6s accusing self or others, which is another trait mentioned. Doubt and ambivalence also leads the 6 to doubt others as well. Theoretical orientation of the 6 (often confused for 5) can also be seen in Hitagi, who is devoted to reason, is a questioner and likes to play around with her ideas. Pugnacity is also seen in her as she shows signs of fear of retaliation, is argumenative, skeptical, critical and thinks that she knows the correct way to pressure others to confirm to her. Looking at all of these it’s clear that Hitagi fits 6>5 in practically everything.
