Why are people typing Dr. Gillen as RCOAI? Just because he's not a complete jerk doesn't mean that he has high agreeableness. He's highly competitive and focused primarily on his own interests. While he's not opposed to cooperating when necessary, he's generally unconcerned about people unless he has a personal relationship with someone. (In fact, I could see a 9 fix manifesting as a desire to keep people out of his hair to maintain his peace of mind rather than having a positive orientation to people in general.) He will get combative if he views someone as a threat to his ego, although it can get more subtle than open hostility. When Tenma first reaches out to Gillen, he drops hints that he thinks Tenma's a psychopath while remaining cordial. Furthermore, his initial decision to turn Tenma in isn't purely about upholding justice. Making Tenma his research subject puts him in a position of power over him, giving him a "one-up." However, his disagreeableness isn't extreme and he likely falls somewhere close to the middle of the curve. He has a strong sense of integrity that keeps his negative traits in check. I used to think he had a 1 fix because of this, but I could also see 9 in light of the interpretation given above. Also, I believe his 3 fix is stronger than whatever gut fix he has. 5 is definitely his core—he’s driven to understand serial killers to gain a sense of control over the darkness within humanity—but 3 motivations are a close second. If his mentality in college is anything to go by, he craves success and recognition for his achievements. Anyway, I really like Gillen. Underrated character.
