What personality type is Princess Ursa? Princess Ursa is an ISFJ personality type in MBTI, 2w1 - so/sp - 296 in Enneagram, RCOAN in Big 5, ESI in Socionics.
This is how the old Avatar website described her: "This is Zuko and Azula's mom, and the wife of Fire Lord Ozai (before he became Fire Lord). She is a very sweet woman and a wonderful mother, but she is also very protective -- especially of her favorite child Zuko. Ursa was born to Fire Nation royalty and was raised as such. She was the perfect match for Prince Ozai and soon became his wife. Ursa spent most of her time raising her children to be good Fire Nation citizens and the ideal royal family." This description strongly implies that she is either Fe-dom or Fe-aux. Sweet, but clearly in the more directive way of Fe rather than Fi. She raised her children to fit an ideal defined by their society rather than putting more stock into their individuality, and she herself is also the perfect representation of that ideal. It also sounds like she is duty-minded, which makes me lean towards Si as her main P function. She's focused on her family rather than politics or abstract ideas. Even her last words to Zuko - "always remember who you are" - have an Si vibe to me: it's about the preservation of what is, of what matters, and about how your past will always be a part of you. She didn't say "remember what's important" or "remember who you want to become" for example. I know I'm over-analyzing one line but she has so little screen-time that every detail counts. So, SiFe or FeSi. Both fit what we see of her in the show: warm, caring, protective, invested in her day-to-day parenting duties. Her flaws also fit: I think sometimes she might have been blind to her kids' individual needs because she was focused on tradition and appearances, like when she makes Zuko play with Azula because it's important that they bond as siblings - she let herself be convinced by Azula's argument because it fit the ideal image of an ideal brother and sister pair in her head, and didn't really pay attention to their actual dynamic (the bullying and Zuko's feelings about it). Similarly, she didn't pay much attention to Azula and just chided her when she misbehaved (telling her how she's supposed to feel rather than trying to understand why). The pond scenes make me lean toward ISFJ rather than ESFJ. The impression we're given is that she's a very calm woman who likes to take time appreciating her favorite spot everyday (Si), and who only reacts with passion (Fe) in response to an attack on her kids rather than proactively like Katara. She also didn't seem to have much of a social network outside of her family, since she disappeared without fanfare. Note: I do not include the ATLA comics in my analysis since they weren't written by the same team of people and her character was retconned in them (for example she's no longer "born to Fire Nation royalty and raised as such"), so they should be typed separately imo.
Biography
Even as Ozai's wife, Ursa was a caring mother to their children (though she had considerable problems dealing with Azula.) She was one of the few people who consistently supported Zuko, and it came as a hard blow to him when she suddenly disappeared.
