What personality type is Azula (阿祖拉)? Azula (阿祖拉) is an ENTJ personality type in MBTI, 3w4 - so/sp - 386 in Enneagram, SLOEN in Big 5, SLE in Socionics.
With Azula, I don't really see much of the gut triad issues around ego boundaries and autonomy. She's assertive, aggressive, etc. and I believe she has an 8-fix, but I don't see it as her core type. Gut types are trying to maintain a boundary between themselves and the world, and they're trying to remain unaffected and unshaken. 8s resist being overpowered or controlled, 9s resist having their inner sanctum disturbed or violated, and 1s resist having their perfectionistic moral standards corrupted by inner or outer temptations. But Azula seemingly doesn't mind the fact that her father has power over her. She seems to look up to him as an authority and acts in order to keep his favor and approval. In order to do that, she made herself the "perfect prodigy", and imo, she is subconsciously trying to prove to herself that she's better and more worthy of love than Zuko. Her issues with her mother seem to originate primarily from believing that her mother didn't love or accept her, rather than being an issue of power or vulnerability. Not all 3s feel the need to be liked by every person they meet; it's more that they're trying to be the embodiment of what they believe is valuable, admirable, and worthwhile. For Azula, that means being what she believes is the perfect firebender, the perfect princess, the perfect prodigy -- and her idea of what that means (which includes having power and control, being feared, etc.) is learned from her culture and/or her father. And fast-forwarding to the beginning of her breakdown, when she's betrayed by Mai, and then Ty Lee... she starts by asking Mai why she did it, but the moment she loses her cool is after Mai says, "I guess you don't know people as well as you think you do. You miscalculated." Mai is challenging Azula's competence here, her image of perfection -- and from Azula's PoV, it's a direct attack on her very identity and sense of value. Also, “I love Zuko more than I fear you.” Another person ‘choosing’ Zuko over Azula, possibly one of her biggest insecurities. I do think there's influence from an 8-fix, but I would still say 3w4 core, personally.
Biography
Zuko's younger sister and princess of the Fire Nation. As a Firebending prodigy, her father Ozai favored her over Zuko, though the two had an opposite relationship to their mother Ursa. Azula uses her position and power to torment Zuko and anyone else in her way. A skilled tactician, master manipulator, and brilliant fighter, she's easily one of the Gaang's deadliest foes. She describes herself as "a people person," but she really is only skilled in manipulating people through fear. Normal interaction eludes and bewilders her more often than not.
