What personality type is Izaya Orihara? Izaya Orihara is an ENTP personality type in MBTI, 7w8 - sx/so - 784 in Enneagram, SCOEI in Big 5, EIE in Socionics.
I think Izaya is an unhealthy sx 5w4. He even says himself that his motivation is observing human behavior and he's doing so from a detached standpoint, where he almost doesn't seem consider himself as one of the humans. Also ENTP 5s will prefer being by themselves and be more detached than other ENTPs. Izaya doesn't seem to be in need of the company of other's or be a showman as much as a core 7 ENTP will, he keeps more to himself most of the time. The reason he looks like a 7 is because the 5 in disintegration will go to 7. The 7 with a sx subtype manifests in as very energetic and adventurous person who can become obsessed with romantic relationships or materialism. In an unhealthy 5 the sx instinct rather manifests as a secretive person who forms unique connections with others where they give just enough information to make others intrigued or dependent on them. The 5 in disintegration to 7 can also appear very immature, unfocused and hyperactive. About sx/so 5s: "The intensity, aggression, counterphobic stance and desire to connect deeply, all combine with the social instinct to produce a highly charged personality" […] "When unhealthy, this subtype can be very dark and the most confrontational of all the subtypes of Five. They can also become very arrogant." If he was a core 7 his motivation would rather be that he just does what he does for fun/satisfaction, but I don't think he would be as organized or have a clear research-based objective (obsession with human behavior), if that was the case. If he was a core 7 he would also disintegrate into a 1, in which 7s will start showing traits of a type 1, where they become self-critical and highly aware of flaws. Let's take The Dark Knight Joker for example, an extremely unhealthy sx 7w8 ENTP: his motivations are ideological and based on an awareness of a flawed society (disintegration to 1). Izaya is similar to both 5w4 and 7w8, but considering how unhealthy he is, his core motivation and how he acts, he is most likely a sx/so 5w4 in disintegration to a 7, rather than a core 7w8.
