Personality

What personality type is Mikado Ryuugamine? Mikado Ryuugamine is an INFJ personality type in MBTI, 4w5 - sx/sp - 594 in Enneagram, RLOAI in Big 5, IEI in Socionics.

Okay, so I've had an especially hard time trying to decide what his type is, though it seems pretty clearly INFx. When I was first watching, he actually came across very much INFP to me. However, now that I look closer and have had more time to look his character over, I think he leans more towards INFJ for a couple key reasons. Now, an Ni dom is going to be very much inside their own head with difficult focusing on the present moment and instead looking towards the future, which is something I've noticed a lot with him. His whole shtick through the first season was about how he wanted a more exciting life, with Izaya pointing out that eventually all of the stuff that happens in Ikebukuro would eventually turn stale and he'd need to seek out new ways or places to live, or he'd lose purpose. Almost all of his thoughts are future-focused, and he always seems caught off guard in the present moment. I think this is why he bounces off of Masaomi (an Se dom) so much, since they have a very different way of looking at the world. Now, the Fe vs. Fi thing. I could definitely see how people would construe Fi from this, but we need to recall these two functions are more about personal values (Fi) vs. social harmony (Fe). Mikado's reasoning for shutting down the Dollars site was in interest of social harmony as a feeble attempt to protect the people in his organization from the looming Yellow Scarves threat. This doesn't align as closely as the Fi approach to the situation, which likely would've kept the site running even in spite of the looming threat unless there was a direct violation of his moral code. He also kept his identity as the leader of the Dollars secret because he thought his friends might reject him, and to keep things as they were he ultimately decided to keep the burden to himself. Anri (who also comes across as an IxFJ type) had fairly similar reasoning, while Masaomi's Fi reasoning for keeping his affiliations secret tied more into trying to keep his friends safe while enforcing his own moral code, and we saw multiple times he wasn't happy about his position. Now, tertiary Ti seems to be a lot more generalized than dominant or auxiliary Ti, and if we take Mikado's age into consideration, likely wouldn't be well developed at his age. People who struggle to engage with Ti usually won't come to concrete conclusions easily, and it takes awhile for Mikado to come to any major decisions, as he's plagued by indecision and his feeling of helplessness as the Yellow Scarves became a bigger threat. The inferior Se makes sense given how much he's in his own head--one only needs to rewatch the pilot episode to see him caught in his own thought process while almost completely ignoring what Masaomi's saying and only calling him out on bad jokes. Now, keep in mind all of this analysis comes just from what the original twenty-four episodes presented us, I have yet to watch the reboot season, so I'm not certain how different he is there. Once I do go through that I'll definitely be sure to give this a review and see if it still holds up, maybe give some extra analysis?
