SOTR SPOILERS!!!!! after reading sotr, ive definitely cemented my opinion that haymitch is an INTP. he might appear to be a different typing entirely because this story shows who he was before the horrors he endured, IE; being relatively open about who he loves and how he handles things. he has an obvious enough Fe, but it simply isn't developed enough for it to be anything but inferior. Ti: haymitch can be seen breaking things down easily in his head and studying his opponents/allies. he thinks very carefully inwardly about how to keep maysilee going to the hedge with him without revealing his true plans, and he is very smart when it comes to making decisions regarding "breaking" the machine. he breaks down inner frames rather quickly, whether it be people or his surroundings. Ne: Haymitch draws very rapid conclusions in tandem with his Ti. where he sees a problem, he very quickly starts looking for a solution and considers multiple possibilities. His Ne isnt dominant and this can be seen when he doubts plutarch throughout the book, but eventually decides to trust him because he feels all other options have been exhausted. he often considers the possibilities and the implications of his decisions. to follow maysilee and look for wellie, or carry out the mission? Si: haymitch uses his Ne-Si to draw easily on his past experiences and deduce what the future might hold. he very easily pieces together what Snow says to him because of this and considers the implications of Snow's own history with a Covey member. he is able to use his memories of the poisonous arena, his encounter with Snow in the Heavensbee estate, his defiance, and the poisoned oysters to quickly realize it is likely a very bad idea to drink this milk, though he has trouble explaining his reasoning, arguing only his instincts (auxilary Ne), but the loop causes his indecision and eventually, Wellie's death. eventually, haymitch acknowledges that he will never love another and while he tries to desperately to let go of the past, he simply never can. Fe: the haymitch we have already come to know appears to have an incredibly low Fe. he is blunt, sarcastic, and downright mean at times. he believes in survival of the fittest and knowingly tells katniss and peeta that the likelihood of them coming home is incredibly low. but in sotr, we can see that he very clearly had much love to show for ma and sid, as well as lenore dove and his friends. he regards maysilee as a sister despite hating her just a few days before and takes lou lou under his wing despite his quiet, withdrawn mourning of louella. however, his Fe simply is not high enough to be even Tertiary (ENTP). he chooses the rascal angle because he is good at it. he is mean to Wyatt and despite comforting Silka in a moment of weakness, he is able to violently kill her without letting his Fe take any control over him. after everyone he loves his killed, Haymitch closes off his Fe almost entirely as a self-defense tactic. he refuses to let anyone close to him and goes through means such as throwing rocks at Asterid to ward them away. he developes a protective shell of alcohol and meanness to keep anyone touching away from him. he is sad when burdock dies, but refuses to show it. he recognizes katniss easily but does not let himself get attached to her until he realizes she is the one who needs to break the machine. and he does not even talk about his family until katniss and peeta ask him to work on their book, when suddenly the dam breaks and all of his love and sorrows of 25 years come spilling out.
