the most ENFP to ever ENFP. but seriously, while i can understand why people hate her, they're still missing out on the beauty of her character - & the entire freaking reason for WHY she's absolutely batsh!t crazy. i mean, just think about it. she was born with a demon inside of her, & all we even know of her mother is that she died when mahiru was 5. plus mahiru was more than aware that her mother was basically nothing more than an incubator, & was literally used in experiments that resulted in mahiru's birth circumstances. & then she was raised by a sociopath for a father, forced to do god knows what with all that training & everything. the stress from that alone must've been unbelievable. then she realizes she has a demon inside of her (& don't forget that she's been subjected to constant, endless experiments her ENTIRE life, whose sole focus is to find that demon & then basically weaponize it & use it) & has to hide that from literally everyone. on top of that, the one person she loves selflessly aka her little sister, shinoa, also has a demon inside of her too. not only does she have to keep herself safe, but now her sister too. & she also was given knowledge of the actual apocalypse, knowing without a doubt that it would occur no matter what. & if i remember correctly, i think mahiru was originally supposed to be the one who dies & starts the apocalypse??? either way, she was legitimately destined to be used, abused, & then discarded like trash before she ever reached adulthood. & she was given knowledge of that from an extremely young age. she grew up knowing she was doomed. that's more than enough to royally f*** up anyone. everyone loves to rag on her for being some insane, sociopathic, overdramatic teenage girl, but like... eh. i still think she's pretty much the only character that has truly been written pretty flawlessly in this story. she's not some cliche female antagonist either. (though i will admit, her post-human "relationship" with guren does drive me pretty nuts. guren just deserves to get to be happy together with shinya. the hiiragi family has put those two boys through more than enough.) like, she's almost single-handedly managed to outsmart a god. & win against him. that's impressive. (& of course she also invented the cursed gear... whew i love me some smart, badazz female characters. even if they are completely freaking insane.)
