What personality type is Jacaerys "Jace" Velaryon? Jacaerys "Jace" Velaryon is an ENFJ personality type in MBTI, 6w5 - sp/so - 613 in Enneagram, SCOAI in Big 5, EIE in Socionics.
Gotta love how he recognized that Aegon was attempting to manipulate him to initiate hostility against his grandfather’s wishes and then just flipped the script on Aegon by wooing Helaena. Shows the value of his Fe-Ni in this game. Diplomacy, politicking, reading between the lines to see through manipulation… Helpful qualities for rulership. This is further shown with how adamant he is in quickly learning high Valyrian. He knows he has to really sell his Targaryen background. His imposter syndrome is gone, and he has faith in his ability to sell his legitimacy. His tert Se appears with how assertive he is when his Ni picks up on someone coming for his throat. Had absolutely no trouble standing up to his Te user uncles with physical violence. This was true even at an early age, when he physically asserted himself against older, bigger, more experienced combatants. I think this assertiveness goes under recognized in ENFJs, especially since people sometimes mistype more complacent types as ENFJ, when the reality is that they have the Ni drive of ENTJs paired with the social attributes common with ESFJs. When ENFJs loop or develop their Se, they can be confused with Se doms, in the same way ENTJs can be. I don’t think his Ti recognizes how inevitable war is though. While Aemond has been preparing for civil war, Jace thinks his grandfather’s proclamations, his own charisma, and his kingly upbringing will be enough to keep his uncles in line without blowback, despite the obvious bad blood from their childhood sleights. Looks like he’ll be forced to improvise against a more prepared and powerful opponent (in terms of individual Dragon might). Despite his perceptiveness, courage, and assertiveness, he regularly appears outmatched by Aemond. He appears to fall under the trope of valiant efforts with tragic outcomes, like a martyr, a sacrificial hero, or a lost opportunity—like Robb Stark or Margaery Tyrell. I really want to see him get more victories physically to challenge the Greens, rather than just his social victories. I hope he’s been training in melee combat with Daemon, since it’s clear that Criston Cole has turned Aemond into a beast who could rival Daemon himself. He could also use that Strong growth spurt, but I already know how his story ends. . . With regard to his Enneagram, I don’t see the 6 or counterphobic 6 qualities yet. His assertiveness doesn’t appear to be compensating for something he fears, like Will in Good Will Hunting. Instead, he just seems to have an assertive disposition, which points to 3, 7, or 8. Hard to tell which, since anyone in his position would be image conscious, but I lean more toward 3 or 7 than 8. He doesn’t have the social or asocial motivations of the 8 variants. He’s not a diplomatic 2, choosing to trade favors before disintegration to 8 either. . . His 3 qualities could just be Fe and his upbringing, while 7s can be confused with 3s when they prepare to avoid a negative outcome. Safer guess right now though is probably sp 3, which is the humble variant. Note that while 1s can be assertive, they’re not one of the Top 3 assertive types, and their assertiveness is tied to some form of correctness. Jace knows he’s not legitimate though, so I don’t see him as leading with 1 even if 1 turns out to be part of his tritype. Happy to hear any other thoughts.
Biography
Jacaerys Velaryon is the eldest (bastard) son of Rhaenyra Targaryen and her paramour Harwin Strong. He’s a member of the #Blacks faction and currently on a mission in the North with the aim of attaining allegiance from Lord Cregan Stark of Winterfell for his faction. He’s betrothed to Baela Velaryon.
